Three prominent Theros in Sri Lanka have written a 05-page letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa raising concerns over the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

The letter has been jointly written by Venerable Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero, Venerable Muruttettuwe Ananda Thero, and Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thero.

The Theros have pointed out to the President that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution creates an arbitrary executive and a weak cabinet.

Meanwhile, the 20th Amendment will be debated in Parliament for the 2nd time on the 21st and 22nd of October 2020.

The decision was reportedly taken during the Party Leaders meeting held today.

Following the meeting, Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake told media that a request by the Opposition to extend the debate for three days had been declined. (NewsWire)
