09 Health Instructors attached to the Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) have tested positive for COVID-19.

CMC Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Dinuka Guruge said the officers contracted the virus after engaging in duties pertaining to associates of patients detected from the Peliyagoda fish market cluster.

Dr. Guruge said that the officers are tasked with creating awareness, briefing, and handing out leaflets to associates of confirmed patients.
Refuting media reports that medical officers from the CMC have tested positive for COVID-19, Dr. Guruge said no doctors involved in conducting PCR tests or dealing with patients have contracted the virus yet. (NewsWire)
