The US Embassy in Sri Lanka has hosted Sri Lanka’s Men’s cricket team ahead of their travel to the USA for the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2024.

Taking to ‘X’, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung stated that this will be an important occasion for Sports Diplomacy as the team heads to the cricket fields in the United States.

“They are sure to impress cricket fans across the United States with their skills and spirit!” Ambassador Chung added.

The Sri Lankan Men’s national team is scheduled to leave for the US on May 14, 2024.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies, with the first leg commencing in the US on June 01, 2024.

This will be the first ICC event taking place in the United States and will occur across three venues – the brand new 34,000-seater Nassau County International Stadium in New York, the renovated Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas and the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill.

New York will host eight matches, while the other two venues will host four games each.

Meanwhile, West Indies, who are the co-hosts of the event, will have matches taking place at iconic venues such as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.

Twenty umpires and six match referees will officiate the ninth edition of the event, which will see 20 teams playing 55 matches over 28 days, across nine locations in the biggest ICC T20 World Cup ever. (Newswire)
