A special discussion was held to address the stipends of war heroes retired from service on medical grounds, following a request to increase their disability allowance.

A group of disabled war veterans, retired while in active service, met with State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon in Colombo to discuss the matter.

The veterans, expressing their concerns, requested the State Minister to increase their disability allowance from the current 10 percent to 20 percent.

Responding to their request, the State Minister acknowledged the significant financial burden on the government in providing lifelong salaries and allowances to disabled veterans, as well as extending these benefits to their families after their death and to the spouses of war heroes who die after the age of 55 years.

While assuring that these payments will continue in the future, Minister Tennakoon said that any discrepancies in the salaries of these war heroes will be examined by reviewing the relevant statistics and discussing the matter with officials. (Newswire)
