Minister of Public Security, Ananda Wijepala, says approval has been granted for the immediate recruitment of 2500 officers to the Police Force.
Minister Wijepala said that the relevant Gazette notification in this regard will be published next week, after which the recruitment process will immediately commence.
He further said that a special programme has been introduced to address issues regarding police duties.
The minister stated that discussions are also underway with the Attorney General regarding 100 cases in courts related to Police officials.
“Steps have been taken to free the Police of political influence. The politicized Security Committee has also been abolished. Some committees had previously been utilized for political revenge,” he said.
