A total of 39 candidates have submitted nominations so far for the 2024 Presidential Election, the National Election Commission announced.
Leader of the Mawbima Janatha Party (MJP) Dilith Jayaweera, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidate Namal Rajapaksa, United National Party (UNP) Leader and President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa, Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) candidate Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, National Peoples’ Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Tamil Common Candidate P. Ariyanethran were among the candidates who handed in their nominations.
The acceptance of nominations commenced at 09.00 am today at the National Election Commission and concluded at 11.00 am.
Following the acceptance of nominations, the filing of objections will commence at 11.30 am, after which the Election Commission will announce the eligible candidates. (Newswire)
