The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is yet to decide on a candidate for the Presidential Election, Party Leader MP Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
MP Rajapaksa said that the SLPP has neither decided on a candidate nor whether the party will put forward a candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election.
Stating that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is the candidate of the United National Party (UNP) for the upcoming Presidential election, MP Rajapaksa said the SLPP candidate has not been decided yet.
“We have not yet decided to field a candidate or not. Further discussions are going on in this regard,” he said.
The former President revealed that the SLPP will pay attention to the people’s wishes at the grassroots when taking a decision regarding the upcoming Presidential Election.
MP Mahinda Rajapaksa added that, however, the current focus was on the programme to take the SLPP party forward.
He made the remarks at an event held to discuss party organisational activities at the grassroots level. (NewsWire)
