The President should have a better understanding of coalition politics, MP Namal Rajapaksa said, adding that problems cannot be solved through Cabinet reshuffles.
Speaking to reporters today, MP Rajapaksa said the President should know to hold discussions with the alliance leaders and maintain peace among the party.
“During the Yahapalanaya government both leaders went in two different directions and the result was the impact on the nation causing instability,” he said.
MP Rajapaksa said he believes it is advisable for the President to discuss with the alliance leaders when making decisions in the future and engaging in coalition politics.
Commenting on the recent mini Cabinet reshuffle, the MP said it cannot be considered a Cabinet reshuffle, as it was only a transfer of portfolios.
“The President has the right to carry out a Cabinet reshuffle. However, the government also has a duty to inform and discuss the matter with their fellow alliance partners,” MP Rajapaksa pointed out.
Questioned on a conflict between the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), MP Rajapaksa refuted such rumours.
He alleged it was attempts by other groups to create such rumours of a rift. (NewsWire)
