A Sri Lankan Sinhalese song has gone viral on the popular social media app, TikTok, making it the first such song to become an international viral sensation.
Sri Lankan musician and rapper Iraj Weeraratne’s hit single ‘Adambarai Baluwamanam’ has gone viral on Tik Tok in Indonesia.
Called the #AdambaraiChallenge, over five million (5m) views and over one hundred and forty thousand (140,000) videos featuring the song were uploaded by TikTok users across Indonesia by yesterday (29).
The viral challenge is expected to spread across East Asia in the coming weeks with Malaysia and Philippines touted as being the next two countries to catch on to the growing trend.
The #AdambaraiChallenge was launched after an Indonesia DJ had remixed the Sri Lankan Sinhalese song and played it at a club.
“Adambarai Baluwamanam” produced by Iraj featuring popular Sinhala Pop Singer Surenie and Rapper Killer B was originally launched in 2008 and occupied the number one spot in several Sri Lankan Music Chart Shows across TV and Radio channels. (NewsWire)
