An individual on a pedestrian crossing has died after being struck by a Police jeep in the Bandantara area on the Matara-Thihagoda area.
The accident had occurred when the vehicle attached to the Thihagoda Police was transporting a suspect to the Matara Magistrate’s Court.
The victim, who is a 75-year-old resident of Thihagoda, had died upon admission to the Matara hospital.
The Police officer who had driven the vehicle at the time of the accident has been arrested by the Matara Police. (NewsWire)
