The Court of Appeal today rejected an application filed by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ranjan Ramanayake over his Parliamentary seat.

MP Ramanayake had filed the application seeking not to remove him from his Parliamentary seat following his imprisonment.

The Supreme Court sentenced the Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP to four years imprisonment on charges of contempt of court.

The Attorney General had thereafter announced that MP Ramanayake’s Parliamentary seat will become vacant due to his conviction.

MP Ramanayake later filed an application seeking an interim order, claiming his rights to function as a Parliamentarian. (NewsWire)
