The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) has decided to cancel all events and rallies scheduled for Labour Day.

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva announced that the decision was taken following a discussion between the Centre and political party representatives.

He said the NOCPC has decided not to hold any May Day rallies or events, on 1st May, due to the existing coronavirus situation in Sri Lanka.

Earlier today, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party announced that it would hold its own rally in view of May Day.

Former President Mathripala Sirisena said the rally would be held in Colombo. (NewsWire)
