Sri Lanka Police release statement on NZ attack involving SL national

The CID has commenced recording statements from acquaintances of the Sri Lankan national who was involved in a terror attack in New Zealand yesterday, Sri Lanka Police said in a statement today.

The Police said that according to initial information the attacker had left the country in 2011 as a student.

Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry Secretary Admiral (Rtd) Jayanath Colombage told Daily Mirror that Sri Lankan authorities were ready to provide the required assistance for the investigations by the New Zealand investigators into the incident.

Sri Lankan authorities have identified the attacker as a 32 year old resident of Kattankudy, a town in Batticaloa in the East.
