Verdict on the request by Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s lawyer to release his client from the Malwana case and close the case will be announced on May 13th.
When the case was taken up yesterday, AGs department informed the Gampaha High Court, that no further evidence will be examined in the case filed against Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa over the alleged misappropriation of state funds to purchase a plot of land and build a luxurious home in Malwana, Dompe.
AG’s department said that since the first witness who testified had not lodged a complaint with the Financial Crimes Investigation Division that no further evidence will be examined over the case in future.
AG’s department also said the signature contained in the statement alleged to have been made by the first witness was problematic.
The lawyers appearing for Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Thirukumar Nadesan then requested the court to release their clients.
The Court said the decision as to whether or not the accused will be released will be announced on May 13th. (NewsWire)
