The Colombo District Court has issued notice to Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Chairman Maithripala Sirisena and party General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara over a petition filed by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on the suspension of his party membership.
Issuing the notice today, the court ordered former President Maithripala Sirisena and MP Dayasiri Jayasekera to present facts to the court on 19 October 2022.
The notice was issued after taking up for consideration the petition filed by SLFP member Nimal Siripala de Silva, seeking the court to issue an order against the decision taken by the SLFP to suspend his party membership.
In June, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party announced that it has decided to sack Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera and Nimal Siripala de Silva from all party positions they hold.
Party Chairman Maithripala Sirisena said the decision was taken as certain party members had accepted ministerial portfolios under the incumbent government, against the party’s stance. (NewsWire)
