A 26-year-old Airman is suspected to have taken his life yesterday evening, Sri Lanka Air Force spokesman Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe confirmed.
Speaking to NewsWire, he said that the incident had occurred at 7.30 pm yesterday while the Airman was on duty at the Air Force Camp in Mullaitivu.
He further said preliminary investigations have revealed that a search had been conducted following the sound of a gunshot within the camp and the body of the Airman was thereafter found.
Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe said that investigations of the Police have been completed, while the internal inquiry of the Sri Lanka Air Force is currently underway.
The postmortem examination into the death will be conducted today after which the body will be handed over to the family, he added.
The deceased has been identified as a 26-year-old resident of Alawwa. (NewsWire)
