Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara has explored creating job opportunities in the fisheries industry of South Korea for Sri Lankan migrant workers.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Employment, Minister Manusha Nanayakkara has also sought to increase employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in the fisheries industry of South Korea.
The efforts were taken during talks between the Minister and the President of the South Korea International Cooperative Fishery Organization Im Joon Taek.
The two parties focused on signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries pertaining to fisheries jobs, while the Sri Lankan Embassy in Seoul and the Korean Government will reportedly take necessary steps in this regard.
The talks also focused on increasing the quota for Sri Lankans recruited under South Korea’s E9 visa for fisheries jobs.
Discussions were also held on providing Sri Lankan migrant workers who have travelled twice for fisheries jobs in Korea to obtain such opportunities once again either under the E7 or E 10 visa categories.
The Minister also requested the chairman of the Korean International Co-operative Bank Organization to encourage investors to Sri Lanka in the fisheries sector. (NewsWire)
