CESS tax increased : Clarification from Finance Ministry

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has amended CESS rates on several goods through a Government Notification with effect from yesterday (November 15).

Issuing a statement, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that revising the CESS rates will not affect the prices of essential goods.

Meanwhile Aruna newspaper reported that  importers have stated that price of 637 items will increase due to the implementation of cess tax. 

Customs Media Spokesperson, Sudanta Silva stated that the new tax charges will be levied when clearing the goods from customs since yesterday (15th). (NewsWire)
