There are local and foreign powers in action working to prevent the development of Sri Lanka, former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said today (22).
Speaking in Parliament, he said the interest of foreign powers in Sri Lanka’s assets and an organized agenda behind this fact were the key reasons for Sri Lanka’s economy to break down.
Mahinda Rajapaksa said that such agendas pertaining to Sri Lanka have been ongoing for a long period of time, and are the cause of the economy to suffer on multiple occasions.
Stating that such actions are prevalent even at present, he emphasized that he is against the selling of the assets of Sri Lanka.
He also blamed the Yahapalana government for incurring a massive amount of debt due to heavy borrowing during that government’s tenure.
Mahinda Rajapaksa charged that those who highlight the policies of the last government as reasons for the economic crisis, do so to remain popular with the people but conveniently forget and don’t highlight the long-term issues that lead to the economic downfall.
Commenting on the Budget 2023, MP Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the proposed Budget is a measure to uplift the livelihoods of the people of the nation.
He added that his party will support the proposed Budget 2023, which is set to be taken up for a vote today. (NewsWire)
