Two suspects, an Italian and a Sri Lankan, who were arrested in connection to a foreign employment racket pertaining to Romania have been remanded until 5th December.
Two other suspects also arrested in connection to the employment racket have been released on a personal bail of Rs. 500,000 each.
The men were arrested by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) at a hotel in Badulla recently.
The suspects are accused of conducting interviews for employment opportunities in Romania in violation of Sri Lankan laws.
The SLBFE revealed that the suspects had published advertisements on several social media platforms, including Facebook, for employment opportunities in Romania.
They had conducted interviews without the approval of the SLBFE and had charged Rs. 1.5 million to obtain employment in Romania.
The SLBFE said that they had attracted nearly 30 applicants for the interviews who were present during the suspects’ arrest in Badulla. (NewsWire)
