The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) has decided to appoint a sub-committee to look into a mechanism to send skilled workers to meet the demands of the foreign job markets.
The Parliament of Sri Lanka stated that the decision was taken during a meeting of the COPA on Tuesday (22), which was chaired by COPA Chairman MP Kabir Hashim.
The absence of trained workers to meet the demand for foreign jobs markets in many fields including nurses was taken up for discussion at length.
COPA pointed out that the responsibility of the Foreign Employment Bureau is not to send unskilled workers abroad but to work with all other relevant ministries and institutions in a joint approach to send skilled workers abroad to meet the demands of foreign labour markets.
Thus, the committee chairman instructed the secretary to the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment to prepare a mechanism within 2 months to send trained workers to meet the demand for foreign jobs.
The mechanism is to be formed by coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Education, and other related institutions.
Furthermore, Chairman of COPA MP Kabir Hashim said that a COPA sub-committee will be appointed for this purpose. (NewsWire)
