Two suspects have been arrested for selling narcotics-infused sweets targeting school children via a store in the Walana area in Panadura North.
The Police said that the suspects had sold a sweet drink and lollipops infused with some form of drugs.
The suspects aged 23 and 25 years, were arrested with 54 bottles of the sweet drink and 55 types of lollipops.
The arrest was made based on a tip-off by an individual and complaints from parents of children reportedly addicted to the sweet drink and lollipops.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects have been engaged in this business targeting school children for some time, while the education of the children has been severely impacted due to their addiction to the said sweet treats.
The Panadura North Police has commenced investigations to apprehend others involved in the drug racket.
The two suspects arrested on Tuesday (29) have been remanded till 02nd December after being produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court yesterday. (NewsWire)
