The driver of a luxury car that was involved in a fatal accident in Colpetty on Saturday (10), killing one person, has been arrested at the Katunayake Airport.
The Police stated that the 26-year-old suspect was arrested upon his return from overseas.
The suspect had crashed his luxury car after hitting a three-wheeler from behind while allegedly returning from a nightclub with his friends on Saturday morning. Following the accident on Galle Road in Colpetty, the suspect fled the scene and left for Dubai on the same day.
The driver of the three-wheeler had succumbed to injuries at the hospital, while one female among two of the passengers of the car had been assaulted by those who had witnessed the accident.
The Police said a court order had been obtained imposing an overseas travel ban on the suspect. He was arrested at the Katunayake airport by Immigration officials after having returned to Sri Lanka from Dubai last night (12).
The suspect, who is a 26-year-old resident of Wellampitiya, has been taken to the Colpetty Police Station. The Colpetty Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
