Lanka Premier League (LPL) Brand Ambassador Wasim Akram will arrive in Sri Lanka soon for the playoffs of the ongoing LPL 2022.
The LPL 2022 has moved to the playoffs stage with the matches and the LPL final scheduled to be played at the R. Premadasa Cricket Grounds in Colombo.
Pakistan bowling legend Wasim Akram has been appointed as the LPL Brand Ambassador alongside Sri Lanka cricketing legend Sanath Jayasuriya.
Wasim Akram, the former Pakistani captain and one of the greatest left-arm bowlers the world has seen, and Jayasuriya, one of the most destructive limited-overs batsmen the cricket world has seen, have been appointed to play a major part in promoting the Lanka Premier League among fans.
Wasim, also known as the ‘Sultan of Swing’, will meet several Sri Lankan cricketers during the course of the tournament, and will also be in attendance for the final.
The LPL 2022 is heading into the semi-finals with four teams having successfully booked their place.
Kandy Falcons led by Wanindu Hasaranga will take on defending Champions Jaffna Kings led by Thisara Perera in the first qualifier. The Colombo Kings led by Angelo Mathews will play Galle Gladiators led by Kusal Mendis in the eliminator.
Both the qualifier matches will take place on the 21st of December, while the 2nd qualifier will get underway on the 22nd of December, and the final will be held on the 23rd of December.
Even though there was uncertainty about hosting the LPL 2022 due to the situation of the country, the organizers have been able to pull off the tournament.
The LPL 2022 has now successfully reached the semi-finals despite various obstacles and challenges prior to the commencement of the tournament. Several cricketers have also commended the organizers of the tournament over the successful planning and implementation thus far.
LPL Brand Ambassador Sanath Jayasuriya has urged the Sri Lankan public to attend the LPL playoffs and final, requesting the public to show their support for the local franchise-based tournament and the Sri Lankan cricketers.
Meanwhile, LPL Brand Ambassador Wasim Akram said the LPL is helping Sri Lanka build its T20I arsenal.
“This tournament is unearthing some good cricket players in Sri Lanka and we saw the proof of it when the team won the Asia Cup this year. I have seen the last two editions of this tournament and the quality of cricket was top-notch. I am sure that players will also maintain it in the forthcoming edition of LPL,” the Pakistani legend said. (NewsWire)
