International cricket commentator Farveez Maharoof has commended the organizers of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) for successfully pulling off three seasons of the cricket tournament.
Speaking to NewsWire, Maharoof said credit must go to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) led by Shammi Silva and the IPG Group led by Anil Mohan for producing a brand that can be sold to the world.
He also commended them for the successful implementation of three seasons of the tournament despite challenges due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the current economic crisis.
“There is room for improvement. As we see the last three years, there has been a great improvement. Come the 4th year of the tournament next year, I am confident that big companies across the world will keep an eye out for the LPL and will be part of the cricket tournament,” he said.
Stating that in the future, definitely, more companies will come in, to own the franchises of LPL, he said it will be a huge success for Sri Lanka Cricket and the IPG Group.
Maharoof also pointed out that the LPL will showcase the talents of upcoming young Sri Lankan cricketers, such as Shevon Daniel and Vijaykanth Viyaskanth.
“This is a great platform for young Sri Lankan cricketers who are looking to break into the national team. Even for senior players who are looking to get a place on the national team. Also, club cricketers are financially benefiting a lot through the LPL tournament,” he said.
The international cricket commentator further said that the foreign players have also been impressive this season, adding that the LPL is a big opportunity for both local and international cricketers.
