Three individuals have been arrested for assaulting two Police officers and obstructing their duties in the Wattala area last night (25).
The Police said the three suspects had been shouting and causing a ruckus while travelling in a three-wheeler along the Hendala Road in Wattala.
They had been stopped by two Police officers at the check post near the entry point to the Negombo road and during the inspection, all three were found to be intoxicated.
As the officers attempted to apprehend the driver for drunk driving, the passengers had assaulted the two Police officers and had fled the area.
The Police said the assaulted officers had informed the Wattala Police who had dispatched a team and apprehended the three suspects along with their three-wheeler in Wattala.
The suspects, aged 25, 29, and 30 years, have been identified as residents of Mabola and Wattala.
The Police officers who were injured by the suspects are receiving treatment at the Colombo North Hospital in Ragama.
The three suspects will be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
