The Department of Motor Traffic has initiated a new programme with effect from the 1st of January 2023.
According to the Government Information Department, 07 key changes have been announced via the new programme.
The seven changes are as follows :
- Removal of English letters indicating the province of vehicle number plates from 1st January
- Amending the MTA 6 form pertaining to the vehicle ownership transfer to 12 pages
- Introduce demerit points for drivers violating road rules
- Introduce licences for hearing-impaired drivers islandwide
- Registration and issuing of licence plates for safari vehicles
- Introduce a grading mechanism for garages and monitoring
- Introduction of E-motoring system for the digitalization of vehicle registrations (NewsWire)
