A wild elephant is reported to have been killed in Habarana after colliding with a train early this morning (13).
The Sri Lanka Railways stated that two other wild elephants have also been injured in the incident.
The elephants had been knocked down by a moving train after which one had died and the other two were injured, the Railway Department stated.
The train is reported to have derailed in the area of Hathareskotuwa in Habarana on the Habarana- Gal-Oya railway line following the incident.
According to Wildlife officials, the elephant that was killed is assumed to be 20 years of age.
The elephant is reported to have died after getting stuck in the back engine of the train. (NewsWire)
