The Kegalle Division Crimes Investigation Unit has arrested four more suspects in connection to the murders and burial of two youths who were reported missing from Mawanella.
The Police stated that two chief suspects were among the four arrested in Puttalam yesterday (19).
The two main suspects, Mohamed Nisar Mohamed Farhan alias ‘Hurimaluwe Farhan’, Abdul Latif Mohamed and two other suspects have been arrested for aiding and abetting the double murder.
The Police stated that ‘Hurimaluwe Farhan’ had confessed during interrogations that the victims had not been abducted with the motive of murdering them.
He had further revealed that the suspects had been tortured and upon their death had been buried. The suspects had thereafter taken the Police to the location where the youths had been buried.
The suspects are aged 29, 34, and 35 years and are residents of Mawanella and Puttalam. They will be produced before the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court today.
The Police stated that a total of six suspects have been arrested thus far over the double murder.
The two youths aged 28 and 26, residents of the Kiringadeniya and Keraminiya areas of Mawanella, were reported missing on the 18th and 25th of November 2022.
Following a complaint filed by the parents in December 2022, the Police uncovered that the youths had been tortured, murdered, and buried under a chicken coop in a house in Rambukkana.
The Police revealed that it is suspected that the double murder had taken place over a drug deal. (NewsWire)
