Japan has assured continuous assistance for the construction of terminal 02 of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.
The assurance was given during a special discussion between Sri Lanka’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva and the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka Mizukoshi Hedeaki.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation said in a statement that the discussion took place at the ministry premises today.
During the discussion, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva expressed his gratitude to Japan for their assistance in the success of Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring programme.
Japanese Ambassador Mizukoshi Hedeaki and Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JAICA) Director for Sri Lanka Akimitsu Okubo assured that construction of terminal 02 of the Katunayake Airport would be commenced soon after the debt structuring process was over.
The Minister emphasized that the expectation of the government is to see it completed as a successful Japanese Project and no assistance from another party would be sought for that.
A special delegation of the Embassy of Japan, a group of representatives from JAICA, the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation K.D.S.Ruwanchandra and the Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nayana Somarathna also attended the discussions.
