Discussions are underway to introduce a digital driving licence in Sri Lanka, Commissioner General of the Motor Traffic Department Nishantha Weerasingha said.
Speaking to the media, he said the introduction of a digital driving licence that will be generated for mobile phones is under discussion.
He added that following its introduction one does not require licence cards unless requested by the driver.
Nishantha Weerasingha further revealed that there was a backlog of over 400,000 driving licences for which licence cards have to be printed and issued.
Thereby, the Motor Traffic Department is considering outsourcing the printing of backlogged driving licences, while the department continues with the issuing of new driving licence cards, he said. (NewsWire)
