A large-scale trade union action will be held in Colombo on Wednesday, 08th February, against the government’s tax policy.
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) distributed leaflets on the protest near the Fort and Maradana Railway stations, and other key areas today.
GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge told the media that the leaflets are being distributed to inform the public of the unfairness of the tax policies and their effects on the public.
Stating that the trade unions have requested the President and relevant authorities for a discussion in this regard, Dr. Harithge said that, however, the authorities have not responded yet.
“Nearly 40 trade unions have expressed their consent to participate in the strike action, These include not only state but trade unions from the semi-government and private sectors as well,” he said.
