Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha de Silva says he has been removed from the post of Chair of the Parliament Committee on Public Finance (COPF).
In a Twitter message, the SJB MP revealed that the opposition had nominated his name for the post and that the appointment was approved two days ago.
He said, however, the government has appointed MP Mayantha Dissanayake as the new Chair of the COPF today.
MP Mayantha Dissanayake is also a member of the SJB and has reportedly been appointed with the support of all the government MPs in the selection committee.
MP Harsha de Silva further slammed the government MPs in the selection committee for overruling the original appointment.
On Tuesday (21), MP Harsha de Silva announced that he had been appointed as the Chair of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF).
However, later that day, he accused the Communications Department of the Parliament of giving various reasons and delaying the issuing of the official statement of his appointment.
The SJB MP had also highlighted attempts to create division among the opposition over the COPF appointment. (NewsWire)
