A group of 39 Chinese nationals have been arrested by the Aluthgama police on suspicion of defrauding people in various countries though the internet.
The suspects were residing in a tourist resort in the Kaluamodara area of Aluthgama on a rental basis and allegedly engaged in these online scams, defrauding a large sum of money.
After receiving complaints from embassies, the police investigated and arrested the Chinese nationals today (1).
The police also seized several high-end smartphones, computers, and cash as evidence, and transported the 39 suspects to Aluthgama police station in a private bus.
Alutgama police and intelligence officials are conducting further investigations regarding the incident. (NewsWire)
