The BAR Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has condemned the move to refer an order of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka to the Parliamentary Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
It is reported that the order by the Supreme Court urging authorities to release funds for the Local Government Elections has been thus referred to the Parliamentary Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
Issuing a statement, the BASL revealed that the Supreme Court order has not violated the powers and privileges of the Parliament.
The BASL further stated that the Supreme Court is an independent institution and should not be called upon to explain judicial orders to any other persons or institutions.
BASL also warned that any interference in the judicial process sets a dangerous precedent, which must be strongly condemned. (NewsWire)
