Another drowning involving a child has been reported in Sri Lanka within the 24 hours ending at 06 am today.
A 12-year-old child has died after drowning while bathing in the Walawe River in Sevanagala yesterday.
The Police stated that the father of the child had taken him and the younger sibling to bathe in the river last afternoon.
Investigations have revealed that after bathing the younger child and placing him on the bank, the father had bathed the older child during which he had slipped out of his hands and was washed away by the river.
The deceased has been identified as a 12-year-old resident of the Habaranthawela area in Sevanagala and a grade 07 student of the Sevanagala Maha Vidyalaya. The Sevanagala Police is conducting investigations into the Incident.
This is the second drowning involving a child to be reported yesterday, as a 17-year-old school boy was reported dead after drowning in the Kandy area earlier in the day.
The boy had drowned while bathing in the Mahaweli River near the Polgolla dam, while another boy who had accompanied him was rescued and hospitalised. (NewsWire)
