All nine inmates of the Thaldena Open Prison Rehabilitation Centre in Badulla, who had escaped from the facility yesterday, have been captured.
According to the Prisons Department, two escapees were apprehended near the farm belonging to the facility soon after their escape.
In a search operation carried out together with residents of the area, four others were apprehended near a paddy field in Baduluoya, Kandaketiya at around 6.30 p.m. last evening.
The four inmates captured yesterday are aged between 23 and 27 years and are residents of Wellampitiya, Dematagoda, Mattakkuliya, and Maligawatte.
Meanwhile, the remaining three inmates were captured at around 4.00 a.m. today near the Kiriwehera, Kandaketiya.
The Police stated that the suspects will be produced before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court today.
