The Department of Meteorology says thundershowers are expected in a few provinces in the afternoon or night today.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Sabaragamuwa, Western, Central, North-Western and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.
The department further stated that mainly fair weather would prevail elsewhere over the island.
The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo during the night.
Winds will be south-westerly over the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Galle via Mannar and Colombo and it will be south-easterly or variable in the direction in the rest of the sea areas around the island, while wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.
Sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Pottuvil will be moderate. The other sea areas around the island will be slight.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
