Akurana probable attack : False info suspect arrested

The police have arrested a suspect in Harispattuwa, Sri Lanka, who called the emergency number to provide false information about a potential attack on mosques in Akurana.

The suspect’s motive for providing false information is not yet clear.

“Police Cyber Crimes Unit arrests a moulavi, 21, in Harispattuwa for giving false information of a bomb attack in Akurana” Police Spokesman said

After further investigation and analysis of the call logs, the police were able to track down the suspect’s location, and subsequently, they were able to apprehend the suspect in Harispattuwa.

The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the reason behind the false information provided to the emergency line.

The police have also issued a statement, urging the public to refrain from making false or prank calls to emergency numbers, as it could cause unnecessary panic and distract the authorities from attending to genuine emergencies.

They have emphasized that such actions are punishable by law and can result in severe penalties. (NewsWire)
