A 15-year-old boy shot himself dead in Ampara on Friday, police said.
The boy, who has not been identified, was a resident of the Mayadunna area. He is believed to have shot himself with an unlicensed 12-bore rifle that was kept inside the house.
The boy’s body was found in a secluded area behind the house after he did not return home from school. He was rushed to the Ampara Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police are investigating the cause of the boy’s death.
