A Sri Lanka Army soldier has been arrested for pushing and causing serious injury to another Army cyclist during a cycling contest held on Sunday (23).
According to the Hirana Police, the suspect is an Army Soldier attached to the Kohuwala Army Camp.
The injured cyclist has been identified as a Corporal from the same Army Camp and a member of the cycling team.
Investigations have revealed that among three cyclists who had reached 100 meters from the finish line, the Army Soldier had reached out his hand and pushed the Corporal who was riding ahead of him.
As a result, the Corporal had fallen over crashing into a 07-year-old child who was watching the cycling contest, with both being hospitalized with injuries.
The child has been admitted to the Panadura Hospital, while the Corporal has been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.
The Police stated that the suspect will be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court. (NewsWire)
