Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya has granted permission to obtain the DNA of Sri Lankan commentator Brian Thomas with regard to investigations into the death of the late businessman Dinesh Schaffter.
The order was issued to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) when the case filed with regard to the death of Schaffter was taken up for hearing yesterday (24).
The court has ordered Brian Thomas’ DNA to be obtained to be verified with another DNA that had been found in Schaffter’s body, based on a request made by the CID in this regard.
The CID informed the court that the DNA samples of four persons including the Borella Cemetery guard and a Police officer had been tested but had not matched the DNA sample found on Schaffter’s body.
Meanwhile, Professor Asela Mendis, heading the five-member committee of forensic experts investigating Dinesh Schaffter’s death has informed the court that the final report cannot be submitted as the committee is yet to obtain several forensic reports and other related documents.
The case has been fixed for hearing on May 08, 2023. (NewsWire)
