A one-week dengue eradication programme will be conducted in the Western province starting today (26).
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, the special dengue eradication programme will be conducted from today until May 02, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Association of Health Entomologists has reported that there was a significant increase in the spread of dengue across Sri Lanka at present.
The President of the Association Nijith Sumanasena stated that the highest number of dengue cases have been detected in the Western Province.
“There is a significant increase in dengue patients due to the alternating rainy and hot weather in Sri Lanka. A high number of dengue cases have been detected in the Western Province so far this year in comparison to last year,” he said.
Stating that the highest number of dengue cases was last reported in Sri Lanka in 2017, Sumanasena said, however, data has shown a steady increase in the cases being reported in 2023.
“There is a possibility of this situation to further worsen and it could also lead to dengue-related deaths in the future,” he warned. (NewsWire)
