Foreign Minister Ali Sabry and Batticaloa District MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam once again had a heated argument in Parliament today over a statement made by the Minister a few days ago.
Raising a privilege issue, MP Shanakiyan called for an apology from Foreign Minister Ali Sabry accusing the latter of having referred to him and his family using a derogatory term during his speech in Parliament.
Responding to the MP, Minister Ali Sabry said he will apologise if any unparliamentary language had been used by him with regard to the matter and will withdraw the statement if so.
Further commenting on the matter, MP Ali Sabry stated that he will never engage in communal politics in order to gain votes.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also spoke on the matter condemning several words used by Minister Ali Sabry, with Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informing Parliament that Minister Ali Sabry’s comments will be expunged. (NewsWire)
