The Department of Meteorology says heavy showers are expected in some areas of Sri Lanka today.
The department stated that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over most parts of the island after 2.00 pm.
Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers may occur in the Eastern province and in coastal areas of the southern province during the morning too.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be north-easterly to easterly over the sea area around the island and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.
The sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
