The Vice Captain of the Kalutara Tissa College cricket team has been hospitalized with serious head injuries following a clash during the school’s big match against Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya.
The Police stated that a clash had occurred between students at the end of the cricket match between the two schools which was held at the Maggona Surrey Sports Grounds yesterday.
The clash had occurred after the victory of the Kalutara Maha Vidyalaya in the last over where students from both schools had entered the grounds resulting in a clash.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that Police officers on duty at the grounds had managed to contain the clash, while no incidents of assault had been reported at the time.
He further said that, however, the mother of a student had filed a complaint with the Payagala Police claiming that her son had been assaulted by a group of students from the opposing school and her child has been hospitalized.
SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the students accused of assault have been identified and that the Payagala Police is also conducting investigations into the complaint.
Meanwhile, according to hospital sources, the Vice Captain of the Kalutara Tissa College cricket team was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Nagoda General Hospital.
However, he has been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for urgent surgery. (NewsWire)
