The prevailing showery condition over Sri Lanka is expected to continue further during the next few days as well, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Thereby, showers or thundershowers are expected over most parts of the island after 1.00 pm.
Showers may occur in coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces and in the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Puttalam districts during the morning too.
Fairly heavy showers of about 100 mm are likely at some places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Polonnaruwa district.
Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places elsewhere over the island.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be south-westerly over the sea area around the island and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 45-50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, Matara and Hambanthota.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, Matara and Hambanthota will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
