The 29-year-old suspect arrested over the double murder in Athurugiriya recently has been escorted by the Police to the murder site today.
According to Ada Derana, the suspect, who is a 29-year-old resident of Koralawella, Moratuwa, was arrested last evening.
The suspect was arrested after being questioned on the receipt received for pawning the jewellery worth Rs. 450,000 which was stolen from the female victim of the murder.
The female owner of a carpenter shop on Godagama Road in Athurugiriya was found murdered near her office room after being attacked with a sharp weapon on May 02.
A 51-year-old employee of the carpenter shop was also hospitalized after being assaulted with a sharp weapon and died on Saturday (May 06) while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
The suspect who was escorted to the crime site had told the Police that the woman had shouted out for help due to which he had attacked her.
“She bit my finger when I covered her mouth. I dragged her onto the floor and stabbed her mouth with a knife. I removed her gold chain and left,” the suspect revealed to the Police. (NewsWire)
