The Cabinet has granted approval to a proposal by the President, as the Finance Minister, to hold discussions with the World Bank for a loan for the social security programme in Sri Lanka.
The government stated that the World Bank has expressed interest to offer a loan of USD 200 million for this purpose.
The social security programme in Sri Lanka is to be implemented under three key factors, such as financial relief for selected beneficiary families, increasing opportunities for poverty-stricken and affected persons, and strengthening social security in the country.
Thereby, the Cabinet has approved a proposal by the Finance Minister to engage in discussions with the World Bank to obtain the necessary loan for this purpose. (NewsWire)
