The Omani investor of an apparel factory in Katana who was assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals in March has decided not to leave Sri Lanka.
The assurance was given during a discussion between Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles and the Omani investor yesterday (09).
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the manager of the factory had also participated in the discussion with took place at the ministry premises.
Minister Alles had informed the Omani Investor that the Public Security Ministry will ensure the safety of the latter and that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has given the necessary directives in this regard.
Expressing his satisfaction over the matter, the Omani Investor informed Minister Alles that based on the discussion he has decided not to close down the operations of the factory or leave Sri Lanka.
The Omani Investor added that, however, a decision on whether to continue operating the factor in Katana or elsewhere will be taken following discussions with his family.
Meanwhile, State Minister Indika Anuruddha responded to questions raised in Parliament over the attack on the Omani Investor, allegedly involving his Secretary and a group of others.
Responding to the queries in parliament today (10), State Minister Anuruddha said that the allegations related to the incident were a politically motivated mud-slinging campaign against him.
“Job losses related to the factory were not due to this particular incident. This was due to the losses incurred as a result of another prominent company having left Sri Lanka. This factory was declared open during the Yahapalana Government. There are no allegations that I extorted money,” he said. (NewsWire)
